compost cookies: a quick treat from leftover halloween candy

Oh the sweetest things! Halloween has come and gone and all that remains of that frightful night are the mounds of candy sitting in my kitchen. What better way to “recycle” those leftovers then by mixing them together and baking them a la cookie style? Here’s a quick and fun recipe for Compost Cookies.

mini apple pumpkin pies with blueberry swirl

Pumpkin pie has always been one of my favorite autumn treats. The sweet spices mixed with hearty pumpkin flavor make for the perfect filling. This is a quick and tantalizing for the taste buds recipe. It combines my son’s favorite fruit, blueberries, with the fall favorite. And because they’re bite sized, you can pack them for little ones lunches 🙂 Check out my Mini Apple Pumpkin Pies with Blueberry Swirl.

pumpkin spiced french toast bake

Ah, ’tis the season for pumpkin spice. From lattes to linguini, the options are endless. This year I attempted homemade pumpkin spice so I always have some on hand! And odds are, you already have the ingredients in your pantry.

The first recipe? A twist on our family favorite french toast. The original recipe came from an inn in Cape Cod years ago but with a few small changes is transformed into an autumn masterpiece. It’s such a prefect brunch bake since you make it the night before and just pop it in the oven in the morning! 30 minutes later you have this Pumpkin Spiced French Toast Bake.

pizza fritta with powdered sugar…bringing the San Gennaro home

It’s my favorite time of year again…the San Gennaro festival in NYC’s little Italy! It’s a tradition for my husband and I to go every year. Last year was Luca’s first visit and while he slept through most of it, his dad and I had a blast! This year with a newborn and a newly walking toddler however, it was a bit harder to get down to Mulberry Street so I decided to bring the festival to us! Since sausage and peppers, braciole, and seafood salads are already staples in our house, I decided to try something a little different…and deep fried! Here’s a fun recipe that takes some time to rise but involves very little work. Check out my Pizza Fritta with Powdered Sugar!

grandma zam’s banana jelly muffins

There are some nights when I’ve got a big pot of sauce on the stove, meatballs in the oven, and am tossing a salad in catalina dressing when I think about my great grandmother. She left us a few years ago but I think about her often, especially as I share my time in the kitchen with my son. In honor of my Gramps birthday yesterday, here is a recipe that I have tried to perfect to taste like her’s and I’ve gotten it fairly close. It’s a great breakfast treat or afternoon snack, and it always reminds me of her 🙂 Here is Grandma Zam’s Banana Jelly Muffins.
